Flores de Mayo In English, it literally means "flowers of May." This month is hailed by the natives and they considered it the time when to offer a rosary of sweet smelling roses, sampaguita, and dama de noche to the Virgin Mary. The children are taught to offer some flowers artistically arranged in the olive palm. Sometimes the frame for the flowers are of different shapes, but the common one is the design of the heart. No one knows who introduced this flores de Mayo but it is believed they are brought by the early priests. Pagbati & Pagdagit On Easter Sunday after the holy mass, the statue of the Blessed Mother in black and the "Mabuhay" followed by the statues were made to pass through the gate. Then after the procession the statue of the Blessed Virgin stops under the "galilea" where a little girl representing an angel descend from an elevated platform and take the black veil of the Blessed Mother. This ritual is called "Dagit." Afterwards in the church plaza and in the presence of the statues, the chosen "Capitana" of the preceeding May flower festival dances the traditional "Pagbati" as a greeting to the Blessed Virgin Mother. Town Fiesta As a gesture of good cooperation of the Ibaanians, the people set a date for thanksgiving and companionship which is celebrated every 30th day of December as a town fiesta. This is a special day when those Ibaanians from far away places come home to unite with their loved ones. This could be remembered as long as Ibaan exists.
