A statue of The Risen Christ. Photo taken after Easter Vigil at ST. JAMES THE GREATER PARISH CHURCH, Ibaan, Batangas [a province in Southern LUZON], Philippines April 3-4, 2010.

Easter Sunday at dawn. After 4 a.m. Mass, there was a 'lifting of the black veil" on Mother Mary's head. A little 5 yr. old girl dressed as an angel, surrounded by other young angels girl is hoisted from a high platform till she reaches the veil and lifted up the black symbol of pain and suffering. This town's Easter tradition is believed to have started around 1900s].[I STAND corrected]

Some of the crowds waiting...

after 'dagit' -- [lifting of the veil] followed "Pagbati"--saluda danza to our Lord. Spiritual meaning is that of FAITH and GREAT JOY, most of all, GRATITUDE to our Lord. The lady [kapitana] who dances and waves the white flag [bandera] in a dance accompanied by 2 escuadron, with a band playing the music. Tradition of this dance appears to have been lifted in Old Testament II Samuel 6:14-21 Angel lifted black veil of Blessed Mother's pain and suffering replacing it with great joy and hope.

After Mother Mary's black veil was lifted, she's shown afterwards in white attire, accented with light blue.
